  • Speak with An Experienced Defense Attorney Today

Wolf Law is proud to serve Denver, Colorado, and we understand just how serious criminal charges can be. Whether you’ve been arrested for DUI in the Denver Tech Center, accused of domestic violence in the Highlands, or charged with a felony in Wash Park, the reality is this: your future is at risk, and the system isn’t on your side.

That’s where we come in.

Led by respected legal analyst and experienced trial attorney Jeff Wolf and his partner Colleen Kelley, a fierce trial advocate in her own right, our law firm is committed to standing between you and the full weight of the Colorado criminal justice system. We don’t judge. We defend. And we do it with compassion, skill, and a deep knowledge of Colorado law and the Denver Court system.

Criminal Charges Continue to Impact Thousands of People Each Year

Criminal charges remain one of the most common legal issues facing Denver residents. According to data from Colorado courts and law enforcement agencies, thousands of criminal cases involving DUI offenses, drug charges, theft crimes, domestic violence allegations, and assault-related offenses are filed across the state each year. Denver County Court and surrounding jurisdictions in Aurora and Lakewood handle a significant volume of criminal cases, many involving individuals with no prior criminal history.

These numbers highlight the importance of taking any criminal allegation seriously. Even a misdemeanor conviction can have consequences that extend beyond the courtroom, including impacts on employment opportunities, housing applications, professional licenses, and educational opportunities. Understanding your rights and speaking with a criminal defense attorney early can help you make informed decisions about your case.

Facing Criminal Charges in Denver? Here’s What You’re Up Against.

When you’re charged with a crime in Denver, everything can feel overwhelming: police reports, court dates, bond hearings, paperwork, fear. It’s tempting to shut down or hope things will just work out.

They won’t—not without a defense attorney who knows what they’re doing.

At Wolf Law, we handle cases in Denver County Court and the Second Judicial District Court every day. We know the prosecutors, the judges, the courtroom procedures—and we know how to fight back.

How Colorado Criminal Law Works—And Why It Matters

Understanding the structure of Colorado’s criminal laws helps us build smart, aggressive defenses. For example:

  • Misdemeanors were overhauled in recent years, reducing three classes to two. That affects sentencing ranges, plea deals, and what’s on the table in your case.
  • Drug crimes are handled separately from other offenses, with their own penalty structure—critical when negotiating charges or arguing for alternatives like treatment.
  • The death penalty has been abolished in Colorado, changing the stakes in high-level violent cases.
  • Bond laws guarantee your release unless you’re charged with first-degree murder. It’s not about if you qualify for release—it’s whether you can afford it. We’ll help you through bond hearings and pretrial strategy right away.

This is the kind of detail that can change a case. And it’s the kind of detail Wolf Law knows intimately.

What to Expect After a Criminal Charge in Denver

Here’s how a typical case unfolds in Denver County:

1. Arrest and Booking

Once you’re taken into custody, you’ll be fingerprinted, photographed, and formally processed.

2. Bond Hearing

Colorado guarantees a bond for almost all charges except first-degree murder. We can appear at your bond hearing and argue for the lowest possible amount.

3. First Appearance and Arraignment

This is where the charges are read. Do not do this alone. Having legal counsel by this stage can significantly improve your odds.

4. Discovery and Pretrial Motions

We’ll review the evidence, file motions to suppress or dismiss, and begin building your defense strategy.

5. Plea Deal or Trial

If the state offers a plea, we’ll help you weigh the pros and cons. If trial is your best option, Jeff Wolf and Colleen Kelley are seasoned courtroom litigators who know how to win over judges and juries.

How We Help Beyond the Courtroom

At Wolf Law, we understand that criminal charges come with real-world consequences beyond the legal penalties.

  • Will this affect your job or professional license?
  • Are there immigration concerns?
  • Will you lose your driver’s license after a DUI?
  • Is there a no-contact order preventing you from going home?

We help clients handle all of it. From license hearings with the DMV to navigating protection orders, we’re here for the whole journey—not just the trial.

Our Promise to Every Denver Client

  • You’ll be heard. We listen to your side of the story and craft a defense that reflects your truth.
  • You’ll be informed. We’ll walk you through every step and never leave you guessing.
  • You’ll be protected. We’ll fight to minimize or eliminate charges, protect your rights, and secure your future.

Frequently Asked Questions About Criminal Defense in Denver

Facing criminal charges can leave you with many questions about the legal process and what comes next. The answers below address common concerns for individuals charged with crimes in Denver and throughout Colorado. Every case is unique, but understanding the basics can help you protect your rights and make informed decisions.

When should I contact a Denver criminal defense attorney?

You should contact an attorney as soon as possible after an arrest, criminal investigation, or notice of charges. Early legal representation can help protect your rights, preserve evidence, and prevent mistakes that could affect your defense.

What types of criminal cases does Wolf Law handle?

Wolf Law represents individuals facing DUI and DWAI charges, domestic violence allegations, assault and violent crimes, drug charges, theft offenses, probation violations, bond hearings, and other criminal matters throughout Colorado.

What happens after I am arrested in Colorado?

After an arrest, you may be booked, advised of the charges against you, and brought before a judge. Colorado generally provides bond in criminal cases except for first-degree murder. The amount of bond and a person’s ability to pay often become important issues early in a case.

Can criminal charges be dismissed?

Some criminal charges may be reduced or dismissed depending on the facts, evidence, and legal issues involved. Potential defenses can include constitutional violations, insufficient evidence, mistaken identity, or other weaknesses in the prosecution’s case.

Do I have to speak with the police?

You have the right to remain silent and the right to consult with an attorney. In most situations, it is advisable to speak with a lawyer before answering questions from law enforcement.

What is the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony?

Colorado recognizes two misdemeanor classes and several felony classifications. Felonies generally carry more severe penalties, but both misdemeanor and felony convictions can have significant long-term consequences.

Will my case go to trial?

Not every criminal case proceeds to trial. Some cases are resolved through negotiations, while others require hearings or trial proceedings. The best approach depends on the specific facts and circumstances of the case.

How can a criminal conviction affect my future?

A conviction may affect employment opportunities, housing applications, educational opportunities, professional licenses, and other aspects of daily life. Protecting your record is often an important part of a criminal defense strategy.

Best possible outcome!

I was facing felony assault charges for an altercation I got into and needed an attorney. It was self defense but the DA was not seeing it that way. After calling around I found Wolf law and spoke with Colleen Kelley on the phone about my case. From the get go she was very professional and I could tell that she truly cares for her clients and their rights and wants to get the best possible outcome. So many attorneys out there just go through the motions and take peoples money. Colleen is not one of them! She knows the law and knows your rights. She’s very experienced in these types of cases and it showed! We took this case all the way to trial and Colleen was nothing short of exceptional in court! She left no stone unturned and was 110% prepared when my trial date came around. She also did an exceptional job preparing me for trial. I felt very confident going into trial because Colleen was in my corner. Communication was great throughout the whole process. Needless to say we got the result we were looking for and I was found not guilty on all counts. I will forever be grateful to Colleen for her services and I am thankful that I chose her to represent me. If you’re looking for a top notch attorney, pick up the phone and call Colleen!

Gets the job done!

I recently hired Mr. Wolf for a 23-year-old case and I am extremely satisfied with his service. Mr. Wolf was very knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate throughout the entire process. He kept me informed every step of the way and made sure I understood everything. The outcome of my case was better than I expected, as it was dismissed. I would highly recommend this firm to anyone in need of a criminal defense attorney. Mr. Wolf is efficient and effective, and he truly cares about his clients.

The best lawyer you could ever hire !!!

Jeffrey Wolf is the best lawyer you could ever hire. He most definitely went way above and beyond the call of duty for me and my case. I’m sure that some of you have hired other lawyers in the past and it seemed like they drug their heels, and wouldn’t return calls, which made you feel that they didn’t care about you.

As far as I’m concerned that will never happen to you if you hire Jeffrey Wolf. He treated me like I was either his best friend or a member of his family, that’s how I felt dealing with him. I honestly looked forward to his calls. He seems like a super cool/good guy. If I lived in Colorado I would be honored to even hang out sometime, maybe shoot some pool, go bowling, ect just have fun. But the most important thing as far as business goes he got an amazing result for me in the case he represented me for. If yall don’t hire Jeffrey as your attorney then you’re making a HUGE mistake that you will probably regret the rest of your life. Again tyvvvvvvvm Jeffrey Wolf for taking care of me. You are the best.

One of the Best!

Absolutely the best!! Jeff and the team at Wolf Law successfully navigated me through one of the toughest and most stressful events of my life. From the 1st call to the last email, Jeff answered my questions, explained the laws and court procedures in terminology I could understand and kept me informed from start to finish. One of the best, case dismissed!!

— Ashlee Echols

Successful and Very Pleased

My name is Matt and I was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years. I ended up registering for 15 because the courts make it near impossible to get off the list. I tried on my own more than once and the paperwork for one county alone is enough to discourage someone, let alone four counties. I felt hopeless.

I decided to call Wolf Law and get an estimate. I ended up meeting with Colleen Kelley and she was very helpful. Told me the price, which was very reasonable, and I paid to get started. She warned me that it can take up to a year to get a court date and she was right. For me it took nine months, but when the time came, she represented me well and I finally got off the registry.

Life is so much more comfortable now and less embarrassing. The S.O. title is one of the worst badges of shame one can wear and thanks to Colleen Kelley and Wolf Law I no longer carry that weight. I’m thrilled to feel like a normal guy again.

— Matt S.

Wolf Review

I hired Jeff Wolf to represent me in a DUI case where I was charged, but was not the one that was driving the vehicle. From the very beginning I felt that I was in good hands because he made me secure in the fact I was innocent and that, though I was drunk, I did not do anything against the law. Every time I emailed him, I received a response immediately. I felt that he knew the system well, and how to handle this “game” of law. When he had to deal with a health emergency, he made me aware of my options and what he thought would be my best choice, which was being represented for court by another attorney that knew my case inside and out. He just called me this past Monday to let me know my case was dismissed! I would recommend Jeff Wolf to anyone being charged with anything in Colorado. He knows the laws of Colorado and will keep it real with the possible outcomes of your case.

— Stephanie

My Case

Jeffrey handle my domestic case with sympathy and understanding. He reviewed all the facts and found that l was actually the victim in his opinion and never should have been put in the position l found myself. He reviewed his findings/opinion with the DA and got my case dismissed. Jeffrey was very thorough, sympathetic and a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend him.
